Vanishing is a piece of artwork which has been thought and imagined to be installed in King’s Lynn’s Inner Purfleet site in England. By using water pumps to create different vortices at the surface of the water, the installation gives the impression that the canal is emptying out. The different siphons work on a random basis and are independent of each other. This piece of artwork has been inspired by the short story « A Descent into the Maelström », written by Edgar Poe, and also by the local and historical context of Kyng’s Lynn Inner Purfleet canal : the waterway has been used for centuries by pilgrims and sellers. It happened that some of them dropped items accidentally into the canal.

Vanishing est une installation pensée pour le canal du Purfleet à King’s Lynn, elle se compose de plusieurs vortex se formant à la surface de l’eau de manière aléatoire et indépendamment les uns des autres. Ces siphons apparaissant et disparaissant donnent l’impression que le canal s’ouvre à divers endroits et se vide. Cette oeuvre inspirée par la nouvelle d’Edgar Poe «Une descente dans le Maelstrom» s’appuie sur le contexte historique du canal qui était une voie de navigation empruntée par des marchands, des bateliers, des pèlerins qui durant leurs pérégrinations essaimaient des objets sombrant dans les profondeurs du canal.
